Shifting of Socials: Returning to What Is Lasting

Shifting of Socials: Returning to What Is Lasting

There was a time when Pinterest felt like the gentlest place to be online. Like composition notebooks filled with magazine clippings, it was a way to gather pieces of the world that felt like mine — colors, tiny scenes, words to hold onto.

But somewhere along the way, the noise of faster platforms pulled me away.

Now, coming back feels like opening those old notebooks — the ones filled with magazine clippings, scraps of words, and little notes to myself. Tiny treasures collected without a plan, just for the fun of it. I’m treating it less like a feed and more like a collection of quiet adventures — tiny notes and clippings that say, "Here’s what I noticed today." Pins that feel like tiny souvenirs from everyday adventures — a little whimsy tucked between the pages, a small reminder that not everything needs to have a purpose to be worth keeping.

Did you know? Pinterest is considered a more sustainable platform than many of its social media counterparts. By focusing on evergreen content and timeless inspiration, it fosters slower, more thoughtful consumption. It’s the online version of a paper collage, where ideas can rest and breathe.

Breaking the old habit of scrolling for speed instead of wandering for fun takes time. I’m being realistic and gentle with myself as I shift, letting the process be slower, softer, less about keeping up and more about finding a rhythm that feels like mine again.

For me, this shift is about finding the fun in pinning again — like a scavenger hunt for small delights, tiny markers of what I noticed and loved, left behind for my future self to find. Spaces that feel less like a stage and more like a little corner of the world where inspiration can quietly pile up.

If you’re feeling the pull to slow down, too, you’re welcome to follow along. My boards are open for wandering, saving, and revisiting whenever you need a little pocket of quiet.

CONNECTING THROUGH COMMUNITY

You can find this series on Pinterest — a quiet board to return to when the world feels too loud. Save, revisit, or explore more reflections as they’re added. If something in this post resonates, I’d love for you to save or share it there. I’ve quietly turned off comments here — but I hope the conversation continues in the ways that feel right to you. No pressure. Just a place to return to when the world feels too loud.

You’re also welcome to join my Newsletter — it’s where I share thoughtful updates, first looks, and occasional peeks into my studio. And if you’d like to stay up to date on my latest posts and stories, you can follow me on Instagram.

If you're a student in one of my courses and would like to share your artwork in a gentle, non-performative way, I’ve created a simple PDF called “Connecting through Community.” It walks you through how to post your work on Pinterest and Instagram using hashtags, no Facebook required. It’s meant to encourage quiet connection, not overwhelm.
